Cybersecurity Awareness Checklist for October

At Your Legacy Federal Credit Union, protecting your personal and financial information is more than a responsibility—it’s a promise. As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we’re sharing a quick checklist to help you stay safe online. Because when it comes to security, we’re in this together.

Email & Phishing Awareness

  • Think before you click—don’t open suspicious links or attachments
  • Verify sender addresses, especially for financial or urgent requests
  • Report phishing emails to your credit union or email provider

Device & App Security

  • Keep your phone, tablet, and computer software up to date
  • Only download apps from trusted sources
  • Use antivirus or anti-malware software

Safe Browsing & Online Behavior

  • Look for “https” and a padlock icon before entering sensitive info
  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi for banking or shopping
  • Log out of accounts when finished, especially on shared devices

Credit Union Tools

  • Set up account alerts for unusual activity
  • Use secure messaging within your credit union’s app or website
  • Review your statements regularly for unauthorized transactions

Passwords & Authentication

  • Use strong, unique passwords for each account
  • Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible
  • Avoid saving passwords in your browser—use a password manager instead

Password Manager Tips

  • Choose a reputable password manager with strong encryption and zero-knowledge architecture (meaning even the provider can’t see your data).
  • Use the password generator feature to create complex passwords you don’t have to remember.
  • Enable biometric login (like fingerprint or face ID) for quick and secure access.
  • Keep your master password secure and never share it.
  • Regularly review and update stored passwords, especially for financial accounts.

At Your Legacy FCU, we believe that security is a shared responsibility. That’s why we regularly share fraud alerts, cybersecurity tips, and scam prevention resources in our newsletter and blog—so you’re always one step ahead.

We also offer powerful fraud prevention tools to help safeguard your accounts. But the best protection starts with awareness. Stay vigilant, stay informed, and let’s work together to keep your financial future secure.
